Sudden changes in vision deserve prompt attention.
Blurred vision, flashes of light, new floaters, double vision, or the sensation that a curtain has moved across part of your vision may have many different causes. While some are less serious than others, only a comprehensive eye examination can determine what is happening and whether treatment is needed.
The sooner these symptoms are evaluated, the sooner you can receive answers and appropriate care.

A red eye can have many different causes.
Eye infections, allergies, inflammation, and other medical conditions often produce similar symptoms, making it difficult to know the cause without an examination. If your eye becomes suddenly red, swollen, painful, or sensitive to light, we recommend contacting our office rather than trying to diagnose the problem yourself.
Identifying the cause first allows us to recommend the right treatment.
Not every urgent vision problem is a medical emergency.
If your glasses are broken, damaged, or unexpectedly lost, our in-house finishing labs at both our Shavano Park and Potranco locations allow many qualifying single-vision prescriptions to be completed the same day. If your prescription qualifies, we can often help restore your vision much sooner than waiting for an outside laboratory.
Your emergency appointment begins with understanding what has changed.
Your doctor will discuss your symptoms, examine your eyes, evaluate your vision, and perform any diagnostic testing needed to determine the cause of the problem. Once we understand what is happening, we will explain our findings, discuss treatment recommendations, and outline any follow-up care or referrals that may be needed.
You will leave your appointment knowing what caused your symptoms and what happens next.

Pink eye and other eye infections can develop quickly, causing redness, discharge, crusting, or light sensitivity. Some infections require prescription treatment to prevent spreading or worsening.
If you suspect an eye infection, contact our office rather than waiting it out. Early treatment helps clear the infection faster and protects your vision.
